Senior Email Copywriter
Type: Full-Time, Long-Term
Location: Remote
Industry: eCommerce / DTC Agency
Hours: Flexible, with reliable weekly availability
The Role
We’re looking for a Senior Email Copywriter who can write strong ecommerce email/SMS copy across multiple DTC brands.
You’ll work on campaigns, flows, promos, launches, retention emails, subject lines, preview text, CTAs, and copy angles. This role is for someone who understands direct response, buyer psychology, brand voice, and how to write copy that actually moves revenue.
This is not a casual freelance gig. We need someone reliable, fast, coachable, and able to write inside a structured agency system with briefs, feedback, deadlines, and multiple brands.
What You’ll Own
• Email campaign copy: Write clear, persuasive campaign copy for promos, launches, educational sends, seasonal campaigns, and retention angles.
• Flow copy: Write lifecycle copy for welcome, abandoned cart, abandoned checkout, browse abandonment, post-purchase, winback, subscription, and other email/SMS flows.
• Subject lines & preview text: Create strong hooks that fit the brand, the offer, and the customer’s stage of awareness.
• Brand voice adaptation: Switch between different ecommerce brands without making every email sound the same.
• Copy quality: Make sure the copy is clear, specific, client-safe, and not generic or AI-sounding.
• Revisions: Take feedback well, improve quickly, and turn around edits without needing to be chased.
What You Won’t Own
• Klaviyo implementation: You won’t build flows, set triggers, create segments, or handle technical setup.
• Design: You won’t design the emails, but your copy should be easy for designers to turn into strong layouts.
• Client strategy: You won’t own the full account strategy, but you should understand the brief and write in line with the goal.
• Final approvals: Sensitive claims, big promo direction, or client-facing strategy decisions are approved by the team before going live.
What “Good” Looks Like in 90 Days
• You can write strong campaign and flow copy with minimal hand-holding.
• You understand how Mail Waves structures emails, offers, CTAs, and retention messaging.
• You can adapt to different brand voices quickly.
• Your drafts need editing, not rewriting from scratch.
• You communicate clearly when a brief is missing something or a claim feels risky.
• You hit deadlines and keep work moving in ClickUp.
• The team trusts you with more brands because your work is consistent.
Must-Have Requirements
• Strong English writing skills.
• Experience writing ecommerce, DTC, or direct-response copy.
• Good understanding of email marketing, offers, hooks, CTAs, objections, and customer awareness.
• Ability to write both short plain-text emails and more structured designed-email copy.
• Ability to adapt to different brand voices.
• Comfortable using AI as a tool, but not relying on it to think for you.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Reliable communication and deadline ownership.
• Comfortable working with feedback, revisions, and internal SOPs.
• Able to work part-time long-term, not just on one-off projects.
Who This Role Is NOT For
• Beginners trying to learn copywriting from zero.
• Writers who only do brand storytelling and don’t understand conversion.
• People who submit generic AI copy without editing or judgment.
• Writers who need every email rewritten by the team.
• People who are defensive about feedback.
• Freelancers who disappear between tasks.
• Anyone who makes unsupported claims, exaggerated promises, or risky health/product statements.
• People looking for random one-off copy projects instead of a long-term role.
